Moral Theology -  Course Syllabus

DESCRIPTION:  An introductory study of the principles and themes found in a Catholic understanding of moral living.  Personal as well as systemic issues in morality will be discussed.

 

Week 1:          Course introduction:  Christ and the Answer to the question about morality
                                    Catechism #1691-1748, 1776-1802

Week 2:          Human Dignity & Freedom:  Made in God’s Image.  The judgment and
                        formation of conscience.
                                    Catechism #1749 – 1775,  1949 - 1986

Week 3:          How do we know what is the good or right thing?  Good, Evil and the Moral Law.
                                    Catechism:  #1803 – 1876,  1987 - 2029
                                   
Week 4:          The way of sin to death.  Redemption, Grace and Virtue
                                    Catechism:  #1877 – 1948,  2030 - 2051

Week 5:          Jesus, Chjristian Love and Personal Vocation.  The Church as a moral teacher.
                                    Catechism:  #2052 - 2195

Week 6:          You shall love the Lord, your God:  Commandments I - III. 
                                    Catechism:  #2196 - 2400
           
Week 7:          You shall love your neighbor.  Commandments IV – VI
                                    Catechism:   #2401 - 2557

Week 8:          Commandments VII – X.  Review and conclusions.
