Welcome

Bishop

That broad and noble plain whose borders are a majestic lake, a mighty river, an inland ocean, and the primeval mountains.  It was with these words that the Diocese of Ogdensburg was described to the First Bishop of Ogdensburg, Most Reverend Edgar P. Wadhams, at his consecration.  Since that year of 1872 many developments have taken place in our beloved North Country.  Countless souls have called this diocese their home.  During their time in this home—awaiting their heavenly home—they have and continue to work towards the betterment of this land and their lives.

While the works of mankind have come and gone the natural beauty of our land stands as a symbol of our constant faith:  Faith in our Lord and God and in Ecclesia Mater Nostra, the Church our Mother.  It is in, for, and by this faith that the Diocese of Ogdensburg lives today.

The homily preached to Bishop Wadhams ended with words that speak to us today as much as they did to him well over a century ago—Go plant the cross of Christ among thy native hills; unfurl the Catholic banner on the banks of the St. Lawrence and on the shores of Ontario and Lake Champlain…Go, and God’s riches blessings go with thee!

May God continue to shower His blessings upon you and all those you love.
