SAVE THE DATE! NEXT FRIENDSHIP GROUP MEETING: MAY 16 - Be Aware, Understand, Take Action!

Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom. We will be blessed to have Father Leland Thorpe, OMV return to talk with us about the second half (Chapters 7 to the end) of "Discernment of Spirits in Marriage," by Father Tim Gallagher, OMV and answer your questions.

This book is beneficial for everyone regardless of your vocation. The chapters are short so, even if you missed the last meeting, you still have plenty of time to order and begin reading the book.

To navigate the inevitable ups and downs of our spiritual lives, countless souls have found comfort and guidance in St. Ignatius of Loyola's Rules for Discernment. For the past forty years, popular retreat master and author Father Gallagher has been at the forefront of making St. Ignatius's Rules understandable and applicable to hundreds of thousands of Catholics seeking greater sensitivity to the "movements of their souls."

Now Father Gallagher returns with a more focused mission: to help you apply these rules to your role as a husband or a wife. In "Discernment of Spirits in Marriage," Father Gallagher aims to free you from discouragement and assist you in finding peace in your spiritual life and in your marriage. He will help you determine what is of God and what is not and will show you how the enemy works to discourage you in your daily spousal interactions in order to undermine both your spiritual growth and your marital bond. Best of all, you'll learn what to do about it!
With St. Ignatius and Father Gallagher as your guides, you'll learn:

*How to identify and remove spiritually harmful habits
*The eleven forms of spiritual desolation — and the four things you must do to combat it
*Why God permits spiritual dryness
*The easiest way to resist temptation
*Your marriage's most vulnerable place — and how to strengthen it
*The four tactics of the enemy — and the grace-filled responses you can offer to each.
*The five ways in which God strengthens husbands and wives who seek to grow spiritually

The book may be ordered at sophiainstitute.com

If you haven't signed up for the Friendship Groups, visit: https://mailchi.mp/sophiainstitute/friendship-groups

Once you have signed up, you will receive updates, including the Zoom link and discussion questions, about a week prior to the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Contact Mary Beth Bracy at mbracy@sophiainstitute.com for more information or with any questions.

BEAUTIFUL LIGHT: A PASCHAL MYSTAGOGY This Easter Season you are invited to enter into captivating truth, inspiring goodness, and breathtaking beauty as we take a deep dive into the Sacred Mysteries of the Mass. Beautiful Light: A Paschal Mystagogy is your entry point into one of the most ancient and fruitful traditions of the Church – a catechesis on the sacred mysteries of our Faith, focusing on our Liturgical Life – called Mystagogy. The early Church knew how essential it was to foster the faith of newly initiated Christians, and the period of mystagogy became a time-tested and true pathway to life-long discipleship. Whether you are a cradle Catholic or have just entered the Church this Easter, Beautiful Light is for you! Join Sr. Alicia and Tanner Kalina for this 7-Part series to unpack everything that is true, good and beautiful about the Mass. Each week, we'll hear from a different bishop as he helps us see with the eyes of Faith what is really happening at Mass, and answers the questions that are pressing on our hearts!

Through the Beautiful Light series, each week from April 13 to May 25, 2023, you'll be invited to go deeper into the mysteries of the Mass through four steps:

1. Meditating on a rite (or part) of the Mass;

2. Reading an excerpt from one of the Church Fathers related to the rite;

3. Engaging with a catechetical reflection on the rite of the Mass;

4. Considering how you can “Live Christ Today,” bridging your experience of faith with your daily life of discipleship.

We also invite you to go even deeper by praying with our Eucharistic Prayer Companions for the Easter Season [English | Spanish] which connect every week to our Mystagogy series.

INVITE ONE BACK INITIATIVE:

The goal of this initiative is to guide people to intimate encounters with Jesus Christ and lead souls to salvation, allowing them to experience God’s love, mercy, and goodness. To do that, we all need to invite back everyone who has left in a way that makes sure they feel seen and desired as an individual member of your parish family. Whom are you called to invite home?

Click HERE to learn more about this timely initiative, and scroll down on this page for resources and information about how you can get started!

PLANNED GIVING: Free Proposal

Did you know that you can make a charitable gift that also benefits you in a practical way?  A Charitable Gift Annuity is a donation you make to our parish, yet you will receive guaranteed income on it for the rest of your life at a relatively high rate of return (4.7% to 9.5%).  Plus you will receive a charitable tax deduction and tax-free income.  Ultimately your gift will support our parish, while supporting you during your lifetime.  For a free proposal contact the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER:

Did You Know...the most common way children go missing is to run away or be enticed to run away by someone they think they know or even trust, rather than stranger abductions. More than 80% of the missing children reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) are those who have left home of their own accord (even if they were coerced to leave by others). To learn more about the role you can play in protecting children, please contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

GREEN APPLE CHALLENGE: A Different Approach to the Green Apple Recognition

Dear Teachers, Catechists, Confirmation Teachers, Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers,

Just a reminder that the Pope Francis Green Apple Recognition submission is due on April 30.

If you have not already been doing something with your students, what if, this year instead of adding one more thing to your already demanding schedule, you combined a project with students, families and your parish that would be an intergenerational combined effort to make a different for a better future for all?

This year’s Earth Day (April 22) theme is:  Planet vs Plastic. What if this year, you focused on simple ways to reduce, repurpose, recycle plastics? Check the Earth Day theme 2024 web page for ideas to get involved. Here are a couple of suggestions

1- Ask the students to share what they are already doing at home or with a group (Scouts, FFA, etc.) summary and submit on Green Apple Registration Form.

2 - Register for the PLASTIC CHALLENGE “RECYCLE BEYOND the BAG” sponsored by trex.com/recycling 1-800-Buy-Trex

They will send you free bins, posters, etc. and give you one year to collect 1,000 lbs. of household bags and wraps of plastics.  Then, you a receive a free earth-friendly composite bench. Check with you pastor, ask if the students can announce it and place a collection bin in the church.  Submit the form below stating that you have registered for the challenge. One school and one religious education program is already involved!  You have a whole year to complete the challenge!!!

Projects submitted will be shared on web pages of both  Syracuse and Ogdensburg Dioceses.  If you have any questions, please contact Sr. Bethany Fitzgerald:  srbethssj@gmail.com or 315-212-6592.

FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTIONS: Every First Saturday, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. (next first Saturday, May 4)

(Please feel free to join us earlier, beginning at 8:30 a.m. for private prayers and recollection)
Our Lady of the Adirondack House of Prayer
7270 Star Road
Ellenburg Ctr, NY
Call Sarah at 518-534-9976 for directions or more information.

What is First Saturday Devotion? First Saturday Devotions require a commitment to do the same requirements each time over five consecutive months as requested by our Blessed Mother at Fatima. The requirements for each of the First Saturdays selected are... To receive Holy Communion in a state of grace; To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) preferably on that Saturday, but at least within eight days prior or eight days following the First Saturday indicating that it is being done as part of First Saturday Devotions for Reparation; To recite five decades of the Holy Rosary and meditate beyond the recitation for 15 minutes on one or all of the mysteries.

Why commit to this particular devotion? It is undertaken because the children who met with Mary at Fatima were instructed many times that this was important. It can be difficult, because it involves a sacrifice of time and possibly current priorities or even certain religious beliefs.

Why is this important? Mary indicated that she herself has been and is wounded and hurt by the indifference, insults, even blasphemy hurled at her, sometimes by those who believe they love her Son. She asks that those who wish to make this sacrifice do so with the specific stated intention of "making reparation for the sins committed against my Immaculate Heart."

Where can we join others to worship and make this reparation? Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is, to the best of our knowledge, the only site in the North Country area which currently offers First Saturday Devotions with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. We invite you to join us on any First Saturday for this act of reparation in the warmth and love of this very special place of prayer and worship…and then return for the additional months! Mary promises that it makes a world of difference in our lives and in our world.
